Five Tips for Staying Motivated in 2016

Here we are! The first Monday of 2016! I love Mondays because they always signify a fresh beginning. I like to start a new week with a full heart and fully prepared for the week ahead. Today I want to share my top five tips that I use to stay motivated. I try to stick to these tips year round but the New Year is a great way to refresh and renew these tips. Keep reading to see how I stay motivated!

1. Start each week with a plan - Every Sunday I begin my week by making lunches for the week. It can be as simple as a large salad that I portion into five containers or I will cook some chicken in my crockpot while I am cleaning my house or finishing up laundry. But having my food prepped for the week I won't stray from my diet and pick up lunch while at work. It also helps to have food prepared so that I won't snack throughout the day. I also plan my workout ahead of time. I either wake up early in the morning to get a workout in or I know I will do it once I get home from work before I cook dinner.

2. Find a workout you love - Not everyone is the same with their workout routines. Some people hate running and some people hate classes. I find I am more motivated to work out if I have a workout that I look forward to. My current favorite is barre classes. If you don't have access to a studio that teaches a barre class you can find some really great videos on YouTube that are just as difficult as a real class! I find that if you do have a hard time getting motivated a class might be better. The group atmosphere of classes are great and always make me want to come back for more.

3. Set small goals - For Christmas, I received a FitBit. A FitBit helps to track my goals for the day. Some of the daily goals I track are my steps, water intake, and calories. This helps me to feel accomplished throughout the day when I hit one of those goals. Don't have a FitBit? Well Apple has great apps that you can download for free to track your goals. Some of my favorite include My Fitness PaliDrated (tracks your water intake), and the Nike Running App. If you have an iPhone 5S or newer it also automatically tracks your steps without downloading any apps!
4. Reward yourself - This might be one of my favorite tips that I commonly follow. Once I reach a goal I reward myself. Say my goal for the week is to work out 5 days that week. If I meet that goal I will go buy myself a new workout top or leggings. I will also allow myself to have a treat here and there if I have met my goals. If I have met my goal for that week I will have a small bowl of ice cream or some chocolate. You need to treat yourself especially if you are dieting to give your mind a break!

5. Get yourself some fun activewear - I always feel more motivated when I have a great outfit on to workout in. One of my all time favorite places to shop for activewear is Old Navy. I love Old Navy because their activewear is affordable, cute, and great quality. It is sometimes hard to find items that are fashionable and don't break the bank. I love their pants and tops and not to mention their sports bras! Plus right now they have up to 50% off on all of their activewear!
